My Setup

Posted by TomaMoto - April 15th, 2009

I get a couple PMs each week asking me what hardware and software I use for recording

So...

Microphone: Studio Projects B1
Hooked up to my computer through an M-Audio MobilePre USB
Recorded using Adobe Audition 1.5

Not much more to it.

But...a decent computer helps too right...plus a quite room...and no disruptions right...

In that case...it'll be a while for me.

Course...I can always use someone elses recording studio...

But tell me this...what gives you the inspiration of voice acting? I can just look at a picture and automatically picture a voice. That or I try my best to immitate what I see on TV to sound and pitch.

What voices can you immitate almost PERFECTLY?

one of my favorite male voice actors is Richard Steven Horvitz.

Can you match that?

No special effects for the fast Billy Voice...he can just say the word "pie" really really fast.

Grim Adventures in my opinion...has some of the best voices acting on a cartoon.

you forgot to mention you use your voice

Is the Adobe Audition software worth it to buy? I've been using Audacity, but really don't know if I need anything more, right now at least.

If you find yourself needing to synchronize audio (either to other audio or video), then yes, I think audition's totally worth it. Audacity has no video support and its audio sync is ass. If you're just using it for very basic functions like recording and mixing, maybe it's not worth the money for ya. I personally would take audition over audacity any day just for how comfortable the interface is. As a side note, I think audacity is really fucking ugly.

thanks that helped

After your response, I'm actually going to get the Adobe Audition. I knew Audacity had limits, and I guess if I want to get more serious about my recording, I need more serious software.

Thanks Moto!

Commenting on Josh's response.

Audacity does have a horrible layout. I've got Audition CS3, and the layout is wonderful. It makes you look so powerful when you use it XD

Change your location you lying sonofagun ;)

So I haven't chatted witcha for a bit. I miss arts and crafts time.

I'm still there, so no! :P

Parody rangers sucks dick

take it up with kirb, big guy

god i'm happy that i don't get messages like those you and many others get. XD
it gotta be damn annoying.

How much did that cost :S

The microphone came bundled in a kit with a stand, pop screen and XLR cable for about $100. It was from 8thstreetmusic.com but I don't know if they still have that same combo. The pre-amp normally costs more than this, but I got it used on eBay for $80. So the cost to me thus far is $180. It's been 2-3 years and still everything works great.

yo add my thing u rock on castle lol keep the gud shit up

besides the years of practice for your WIDE ASS RANGE of voices. i have to say, your like the best VA i've ever come across.....hhmmmmm, i could use you........

Thanks =]
that helps a lot.
I got bored and started looking up mics and stuff, because the one built into my laptop just doesn't cut it.

Which one of you voiced Swirly glasses in Girlchan? xD
I got bored and imitated the voice for hours, somehow turning it into a Mandark laugh from Dexter's Lab
